The OBIES: Chefs Cook to Benefit Local Charities
The Orange Bowl has teamed up with Chef Norman Van Aken to host the Orange Bowl Impact and Excellence Awards (OBIEs) " A Taste of South Florida", presented by Florida Blue and hosted by Publix Super Markets on Friday, May 30. from 7-10 pm at the Broward County Convention Center. Event proceeds benefit local Florida chapters of Make a Wish, Special Olympics, and the Orange Bowl Youth Leadership Academy.
The OBIEs will feature a night of extraordinary food, entertainment and talent as we celebrate those individuals who share Orange Bowl’s values in giving back to the South Florida community. Top South Florida restaurants will have an opportunity to provide tastings and optional pairings. A panel of judges comprised of South Florida chefs will vote to determine a Miami-Dade County restaurant winner, a Broward County restaurant winner, and an overall “Flavor of Florida” restaurant winner. In addition, each event attendee will also have a chance to cast their vote by voting for their favorite overall restaurant.
There is a great line up thus far of some stellar restaurants and chefs from both Broward and Miami-Dade County . The participating chefs include ( and the list continues to grow ); James Beard Award Winning Chef Michael Schwartz of Michael's Genuine etc, Top Executive pastry chef; Hedy Goldsmith, Chef Ralph Pagano of Naked Taco and Alba's Seaside, Chef Paula da Silva of 3030 Ocean, Tim Petrillo, Howie Kleinberg of Bulldog BBQ , Danny Grant, and more.
