Weekly Nibble: Miami goes PINK, Croquetapalooza, Slow Food Social at EDGE, Ruth Reichl lunch and more

 

Each week, MIAbites features upcoming weeks food events and happenings in and around Miami area.   October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and this week we are also noting a few places supporting the cause through special cocktails and menu items.  

Thursday October 8th- COYA is launching Spin Break in its authentic Pisco Bar on October 8th  which features live DJs in the Pisco Bar from 8 p.m. to midnight(Thursdays) and from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. (Fridays and Saturdays). The DJs’ vibes will complement the array of cocktails and bar bite menu items offered in the Pisco Bar. Seasoned mixologist and Pisco connoisseur, Maria Pottage oversees the Pisco Bar program at COYA, which also offers a wide-range of premium spirits; rare Whisky from Japan and Scotland, premium Vodkas and Gin’s. Tuesday October 13thSlow Food Miami, the local,100 percent volunteer non-profit dedicated to planting a fresher future for our children, hosts a “Snail Social” with Chef Aaron Brooks at EDGE Steak & Bar at Four Seasons Hotel Miami. Guests will enjoy special Happy Hour prices on signature bites and cocktails, while they discuss the latest in local food culture with those leading the charge. Wednesday, October 14thAt 12 noon, The Café at Books & Books will host a delectable lunch in honor of famed restaurant critic and author, Ruth Reichl. Former editor-in-chief of Gourmet magazine, Reichl is a respected culinary professional responsible for writing a series of critically acclaimed memoirs, as well as a number of books emblematic of her lifelong passion for food. My Kitchen Year, Reichl’s latest publication,centers on her deeply intimate journey as she rediscovers the joys of cooking and the healing power it holds. Miami goes PINK all of October in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and a number of local spots are featuring special “pink” cocktails and menu items with percent of proceeds going to cancer research programs such as the Susan G Komen fund.

Fontainebleau Miami Beach has partnered with Susan G. Komen® Miami/Ft. Lauderdale in the fight against breast cancer through the hotel’s 7th annual Bleau Goes Pink campaign in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Throughout the month of October, Fontainebleau will bring awareness to and raise funds for breast cancer research. As part of Dine for The CurePrix-fixe dinner menus at $55 per person, excluding tax and gratuity, will be offered throughout October at Hakkasan, Scarpetta, Michael Mina 74 and StripSteak by Michael Mina, $5 from every cover will be donated to Susan G. Komen Miami/Ft. Dolce Italian is showcasing one of their signature cocktails and have created a specialized dessert with a percentage of proceeds for both benefiting the Susan G. Bianca at the Delano South Beach- Bianca at Delano is going Pink. Pastry Chef Armand Berger has created a delectable Soft White Chocolate Pannacota ($15) with fresh berries, strawberry crumble, crunchy pink meringue and berry couli. 25% of each White Chocolate Pannacota purchased will go towards benefiting the Susan G. Tacos & Tatas Tuesdays - The entire month of October, all six Rocco's Tacos & Tequila Bar locations in Florida will donate a percentage of their famed Taco Tuesday sales to breast cancer research via Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Since launching the annual campaign in 2011, Rocco’s Tacos has donated more than $100,000 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and in 2015 owner and South Floridas Honorary Chair of the Susan G Komen fund, Rocco Mangel has set a goal of raising an additional $50,000.  On Tacos & Tatas Tuesdays, for $15.99 per person guests can indulge on all-you-can-eat tacos including Rocco’s signature chicken, pork, steak, beef, mushroom, shrimp or mahi tacos, each outfitted with all the fixings.
