Saturday Sweets: Sugar Factory hosts Ocean Drive Brunch

If you are looking for a family friendly and frankly an "over the top" Sunday Brunch,  Sugar Factory on Ocean Drive is here to save the day!  This summer they hosted a Superhero themed brunch that took place the last Sunday of July.  From 1-3pm diners were treated to an appearance from Wonder Woman and Batman in all their glory.  The next Superhero Brunch date has not yet been set, but follow on Facebook for other upcoming events and themed brunches.

Now, if you are headed all the way to Ocean Drive for brunch I am sure you want to make sure the food is worth itHave no fear – there’s definitely more than just sugar and sweets being offered at this brunch.  The menu is almost overwhelming as you flip through the pages and pages of options.

Recently, I was invited with a fellow MIAbites food lover to check it out.  We started by ordering cocktails, after all it IS brunch! I went with the Peace, Love, and Harmonie – a sweeter cocktail adorned with dried fruit and a flower on top.  The menu doesn’t specify what’s in any of their cocktails but I took a chance since I thought the name was cute.  Just as I was trying to decipher what was in my cocktail, our waiter brought out one of their signature punch bowl covered in candy and filled with dry ice.  What a show that was!

It seems like the punch bowl made us both decide it was a major cheat day so we opted for the Sampler Platter consisting of Buttermilk Onion Rings, Crispy Chicken Fingers, Buffalo Wings, Mac & Cheese Pops served with the appropriate dipping sauces for each.  Deep fried deliciousness in every bite.

Next we moved on with some more savory and a little sweet – a classic Western Omelet, Eggs Benedict, and a Chocolate Stuffed French Toast.  All very tasty, although being the notorious sweet tooth that I am, I would have wished for some more chocolate in the French Toast.  Secretly, I was imaging oozing chocolate when I cut into it but it was more of a baked in chocolate swirl.

My sweet tooth wasn’t sad for long as we got plenty of sugar once it was time for dessert.  We were told we MUST try the insane milkshakes and were surprised with two of their best sellers:

·      Caramel Sugar Daddy Cheesecake - Vanilla Ice Cream with Cheesecake Pieces and Caramel Sauce, Whipped Cream and a slice of NY Style Cheesecake, a piece of Sugar Daddy® candy and a Rainbow Lollipop in a Chocolate Covered Mug with Crushed Graham Crackers.

·      Chocolate Rocky Road - Chocolate Ice Cream with Walnuts, Marshmallow and Chocolate Chip Pieces topped with a Chocolate covered Marshmallow glazed donut and a Rocky Road in a Chocolate Covered Mug with Crushed Walnuts

Both of these were out of control and so delicious!  They stand at almost a foot tall and are decorated with so many goodies, that they definitely earn their name Insane Milkshakes.  One is easily enough for a family to share – in fact it was hard to ignore the stares we were receiving with multiple milkshakes and punch bowl cocktails on our table!  But of course we weren’t done there – we finished our crazy brunch with a Tie Dye Donut Ice Cream Sandwich.  A soft and doughy donut with creamy vanilla ice cream.

Sugar Factory is offering one of the most over the top, elaborate, family friendly brunches I’ve seen in a while.  While the superheroes walking around and chatting with diners added a fun touch, this is a perfect setting for brunch with the family or to bring out of towners for a very Miami experience.  I just wish there was a superhero to fly me home after I was done eating!
