What I ATE: Miami Bloggers Best Bites for Fall 2017

The food blogger community in Miami is a very special one.  Many of us see each other frequently at various media events, SOBEWFF or just while out to breakfast, lunch, cocktails or dinner. 

We take comfort in being with people who understand the need to take multiple photos of food, getting the light just right, and many a meal has gone cold while we staged each picture.

Annoying,  we know. 

But our blogger friends totally get what it is we all do in support of local farms, chefs and restaurants.  And while a little healthy competition (more like a sibling rivalry) may exist, most of us consider our Miami blogger community among our closest friends.

This month’s What I ATE feature focuses on late summer, early Fall seasonal menu items and includes not just MIAbites regular contributors but also some of our favorite “siblings” and their mouthwatering Instagram links.  Follow them!

Amber Love Bond- @amber_love

The newest ceviche from Diego Oka’s menu at La Mar is out of this world! It’s made with lobster, crab, chalaca, radish, and smoked avocado leche de tigre. It was so good, I told Diego I would swim in a bowl of it if he would serve me one big enough!

The late summer plums from 3030 Ocean were light and delicious. They were perfect for the end of the summer. 

And I love the avocado bowls from Fit Foodz, because who doesn’t love cheese and avocado.

We had paella with truffled pecorino cheese and shrimps from the Kebo Restaurant in Key Biscayne that they delivered to our house! Really yummy.

Brunch is complete with the one-handed sammie from All Day Mia topped with a fried egg, soft bun and a side of cold brew deliciousness.

Loved the ambiance, open kitchen and farm forward menu at Chef Jeremy Ford’s Stubborn Seed, but the Smoked Foie Gras with homestead boniato tortellini, marcona almond, spiced quince was a melt in the mouth special treat with an impressive “smoked” presentation.  Also enjoyed as a starter, was the Wahoo with fermented chili buttermilk, kombu, sea grape,  asian pear and as a main course the Slowly Cooked Snapper with poblano cucumber lime, littleneck clams. bitter lettuce, “butter”foam.

Two choices this Fall have impressed me. The Barceloneta whole fish is always light and perfectly prepared.

I enjoyed my first taste at Chef Jose Mendin’s new Habitat in the 1 Hotel, which included Bacalao fritters, Oyster mushroom carpaccio with truffle gnocchi and jamon plate.

Plant-based, delicious and colorful menu items from GLAM including Mushroom faro “risotto” and Ube sweet potato pie.

And the entire vegan/vegetarian dinner American Harvest in Brickell City Centre which included Roasted sweet potatoes, Spicy edamame, Sweet potato salad, Pesto harvest skillet, and Curried vegetable bowl.

Byblos continues to be one of our favorite spots in Miami, and their Mushroom Truffle Pide is amazing.  Especially alongside their Gulub cocktail, a vodka, pomegrante and rose essence cocktail topped with colorful flowers and rose petals and served in a chilled silver cup.

Call it predictability if you'd like, but my taste buds' favorite tango partner is chef Adrianne Calvo. As a foodie, I am invited to many places and time and time again, I return to that little Napa Valley inspired restaurant-slash-wine-bar in West Kendall. This year for National Fried Chicken Day, the queen of maximum flavor blew my mind with her Nashville hot fried chicken. It was truly finger licking' good!

I must also mention that I was extremely impressed with chef Niven Patel of Ghee Indian Kitchen. The menu boasts simple yet complex dishes with waves of varying flavors that will impress beyond expectations. I suggest that you order any and everything and that visit soon.

Hands down: Proof Miami's grass-fed burger with white cheddar aioli and caramelized onions. We would have never thought that a place known for its awesome pizzas and pastas would have an equally awesome burger, but it goes to show just how talented chef/owner Justin Flit is. And don't get us started on that housemade potato bun. 

Mitch and Mel Take Miami- @mmtakemiami

The Sweet Potato Pancake Stack with toasted marshmallow, candied walnuts, and maple syrup from Bird & Bone is the perfect dish for fall. Although we would gladly eat pancakes of any kind, this rendition had a certain je ne sais quoi with the extra sweet touches of the sweet potato and marshmallows that just seemed right for the season. Our brunch bunch devoured these in a matter of minutes.
