Newish Brunches That Should Be On Your Radar

Brunch is bae, and we live in a city that’s very much aware of that. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again - day drinking with friends while eating breakfast foods is one of the greatest activities out there. Restaurants are all about the brunch menu and many of the newer spots in town are quickly developing their menus to keep up.

Here are four newish brunches that have caught my eye lately:

Lolo’s Surf Cantina -

Technically, it’s breakfast and it’s only served until 11am - so this is not where you go when you’ve had a late night. But Lolo’s is worth the early adventure. It’s got all the Mexican classics like chilaquiles, huevos rancheros, and a hearty breakfast burrito. Make it a perfect beach day and hit the sand right after since it’s just a few steps away. Must have: Butterscotch Pancakes - two fluffy pancakes, caramelized banana, maple pecans, butterscotch, and whipped cream.

Stiltsville Fish Bar -

Owned and operated by Jeff McInnis and Janine Booth, this new addition to Sunset Harbor was quick to add a brunch menu. Look forward to classic brunch dishes with fun seafood twists. Menu items include pork belly bacon and sweet corn; baby kale and pimento cheese omelet; and steak n’ eggs. Must Have: Blue Crab Eggs Benedict with local farm eggs, house made english muffins boggy bayou hollandaise & herb salad

Bird & Bone -

You know brunch is good when you go on a Sunday and run into the chef/owner having brunch with his family on his day off. That’s just what happened when I stopped into Chef Richard Hales’ Bird & Bone at The Confidante. This Southern spot features sweet potato pancakes, classic eggs benedict, fried chicken over a cornbread waffle, and of course steak & eggs. The brunch menu also includes bottomless mimosas, Bellinis, and bloody Mary’s for $25, bottomless ginger peach sangria for $35, and bottomless Rolling Rock Beer for $20. Must Have: Chef Hales’ Hot Chicken Tacos with hot fried chicken, pickles, Florida honey, and house mustard.

Plomo Tequila & Taco Bar -

With tequila right there in the name, it’s pretty clear that this brunch includes copious amounts of drinking. If you’re looking for a bottomless brunch - this one is for you. Plomo’s brunch has $15 bottomless mimosas and mojitos. Pair those drinks with the Mexican fare and you’re looking at a great day. Expect to hear a DJ spinning as you feast on avocado toast, tacos, and chilaquiles (can you tell I have a thing for those?) Must have: Chicken Flautas made with chicken, tomatillo, sour cream, cotija cheese, and lettuce.

So with this weekend's weather looking iffy, plan to grab some friends and head out to these great brunch spots!
