Saturday Sweets: Celebrate World Nutella Day in Miami
My favorite food holiday of the year (I’m sure I say that about a few of them #sorrynotsorry) – World Nutella Day is, Sunday February 5th. While most people will be focused on the fact that it’s Super Bowl Sunday, I’ll be happily eating all the Nutella I can. In honor of this delicious “chocolatey“ hazelnut holiday, here are some spots you can celebrate along with me.
Sweetness Bakeshop, Mini Chocolate Nutella Mousse Cake
Sugarcane Raw Bar Grill, Nutella Sundae
Pubbelly Sushi, Nutella Brownie
Big Easy, Nutella Bread Pudding
Boca’s House, Nutella Milkshake
The Salty Donut, Nutella Donut
Bertoni Café Brickell, Nutella Pancakes
Bakehouse Brasserie, Nutella Croissant
In addition to where to find some amazing Nutella creations in Miami, here’s some fun facts about this delicious spread:
*One jar of Nutella is sold every 2.5 seconds throughout the world. According to the United States Census Bureau, one person is born every eight seconds.
* Nutella uses 25% of the world’s supply of hazelnuts.
* Pietro Ferrero first introduced the product in 1946 as a solid block called “pasta gianduja” which could be sliced and served on bread, but in 1963 it evolved into a spreadable version called Supercrema. Ferrero is still the manufacturer of today’s Nutella, with plants in Canada and Mexico supplying the North American Market.
* You could cover the Great Wall of China eight times with the amount of Nutella sold each year.
* The Nutella name came about as a result of combining the English word ‘nut’ and the Latin suffix for sweet – ‘ella’.
* In 2013 the chocolate-hazelnut spread made headlines in Germany, where thieves pulled off a $20,000 heist, stealing 5.5 metric tons of the sweet stuff from a parked truck. Several weeks earlier, Columbia University found itself at the center of “Nutella-gate,” an expose smearing the school for spending $6000 per week on the spread for one of its dining facilities, where students were allegedly consuming 100 pounds of it per day.
