Cafe La Trova hosts Community Kitchen Meal Distribution with Food Rescue US-Miami

Food Rescue US-Miami and Café La Trova partners with Ascendant Insurance Solutions and LAAIA to Offer Free Meals to Little Havana Residents

In collaboration with James Beard Award-winning chef Michelle Bernstein, Food Rescue US – Miami is opening their fifth Community Kitchen at the popular Little Havana restaurant Café La Trova. This partnership will help provide nutritious meals to those that have been furloughed or are unemployed, first responders, hospital workers or any individual that is food insecure.

The kitchen is part of the Food Rescue US national COVID-19 emergency response effort that provides employment for restaurant staff, while funding chef-prepared meals to provide to the community free of charge. The Cafe La Trova Meal Distribution will be provided through the generous support from Ascendant Insurance Solutions and Miami’s Latin American Association of Insurance Agencies. Sparkling mineral water has been donated by Topo Chico.

A minimum of 500 free meals will be distributed curbside at Café La Trova at 971 SW 8th St, Miami, FL on Wednesday, June 24th from 3 pm to 5 pm and will feature Chef Bernstein’s creative take on traditional Cuban specialties. No-contact drive up or walk up is available.

“We are honored to be able to help the vibrant Little Havana community,” said Food Rescue US - Miami Site Director and MIAbites founder, Ellen Bowen. “Through this partnership, we are able to support a local business, allowing them to employ their staff, while also providing their delicious food free of charge to the residents of Little Havana.”

This will not be Café La Trova’s first COVID-19 response effort. Recently, their team provided meals for students in Miami-Dade public schools, worked with Big Brothers Big Sisters to provide meals to 20 families in need and partnered with Kiwanis Club to feed over 100 Little Havana residents.

Café La Trova will be the fifth Community Kitchen launched by Food Rescue US – Miami. The first kitchen, in collaboration with World Central Kitchen, at Chef Marcus Samuelsson’s Red Rooster in Overtown has served over 9,000 meals. Since then, Food Rescue US - Miami has gone on to open Community Kitchens at James Beard nominated Chef Brad Kilgore’s Alter in Wynwood, providing 1,200 meals in two weeks, and most recently at Café Creole, Yarumba and Shuckin and Jivin in Miami Gardens. Future Community Kitchens are in planning stages for Little Haiti.
