Saturday Sweets: Antonio Bachour's New Bakery Is Officially Open

Remember that time I stalked Antonio Bachour’s last project? Well, in my eyes the hype is still real. The day has finally come and famed pastry chef Bachour’s new bakery is officially open in the heart of Downtown Coral Gables. This new spot features a bakery, restaurant, and pastry academy bearing his name, making it an ideal place for power breakfasts and special lunches, and must go to eatery for Sunday brunch.

The new bakery is located at 2020 Salzedo, a mixed-use office, residential and retail project by developer Codina Partners. Along with him comes a favorite pastry chef of MIAbites, Karina Rivera, who we’ve loved for years.

Here’s a little more intel on what you can expect to find at the city’s newest sweet spot:

What are you most excited about with the new space?

he most exciting is that it is located in an iconic building, 2020 Salzedo. Inside the building there is a palm court that is perfect for our afternoon tea menu.

How will Bachour Bakery be different from anything you've done so far?

It will be something I have never done before. New concept, new menu, new ideas .... we want it to be a unique experience for our clients. It will be a wow factor experience!

As a home baker, I'm really excited about the pastry academy - will any one be able to sign up for classes? Or will you have a few specific classes the public can sign up for? Will you be teaching all of the classes or bringing in guest chefs as well?

The classes will be for everybody. Of course I will be teaching, plus I have already talked with a few international pastry chefs that will pop in for classes as well.

I'm a huge fan of Karina's and know her favorite thing to make is macarons - what's your absolute favorite type of pastry to make? And why?

I love to make plated desserts. I love the flavor combinations and the plating skills that are required. I think that plated desserts are more complex than any other desserts.

“Downtown Coral Gables’ mix of modern metropolitan offerings and unique, historic charm made it the ideal location for me to call home,” said Bachour. “My vision for the bakery aligns perfectly with the Codina.
