Weekly Nibble: Four Ways To Celebrate National Pie Day in Miami

Did you know National Pie Day started in the mid-1970s after some guy (a nuclear engineer who loved pie) decided to call his birthday (January 23rd) National Pie Day and eventually within the next decade it became sponsored by the American Pie Council as an official holiday?

Wonder what holiday we can create to celebrate our birthdays?! Either way, today is National Pie Day and there are plenty of places worth checking out to celebrate. We’ve narrowed it down to four ways that we will be celebrating the delicious dessert filled day.

Enjoy a South Florida classic:

No pie screams South Florida like a key lime pie. You’ll find these babies everywhere from Key West to Miami and beyond. The hardest part is deciding if you’re team whipped cream or team meringue. A Lure Fishbar in the Loews Miami Beach Hotel. , it’s all about the whipped cream. Lure’s key lime pie is one of the restaurant’s most popular signature desserts, made with a traditional graham cracker crust, a fresh whipped cream quenelle and white chocolate accents, in addition to fresh raspberries and key lime zest for garnish.

Eat pie and party with Pink Pie:

Last week we fell in love with the duo behind Wynwood’s new Pink Pie mini pie shop. This week they are celebrating the shop’s grand opening which aligns perfectly with National Pie Day. Pink Pie invites you to celebrate all things pie with them as you check out the new flagship Wynwood shop from 6 to 9 p.m. Enjoy a sampling of their new sweet and savory pies, brews by Veza Sur and more!

170 NW 26th St, Miami, FL 33127

Fall into a chocolate filled sugar coma:

It almost seems as though there’s no limit to the number of pies being made daily at Fireman Derek’s. All pies are 9 inches and can be purchased whole or by the slice. Flavors vary from classics like pecan and coconut custard to more creative pies like the Salty Monkey made with chocolate, peanut butter and banana, Oreo crust, crushed pretzels, and chocolate drizzle. Chocolate lovers can opt for the Nutella pie made with Nutella hazelnut mousse, rich chocolate ganache, crushed Oreo crust, hazelnut pirlouettes, and a perfect Nutella drizzle.

Keep it savory:

Not all pies are created equally, or with dessert in mind. If you prefer to stick to savory foods, don’t worry — there’s still pie for you. While it’s not always on the menu (make sure to pay attention to the special’s board), the shepherd’s pie at The Seven Dials in Coral Gables is the best savory pie you’ll find. From the fluffy potatoes to the well seasoned meat and veggies, each bite it bound to warm even the coldest of souls.
