Saturday Sweets: McDonald’s Debuts New Premium Desserts

The following Saturday Sweets is a paid sponsored post

McDonald’s has always been a great constant when it comes to the simple, quick, and classic vanilla soft serve ice cream cone. As a kid I always loved when my grandma’s sweet tooth kicked in while we were running errands, because I knew that meant we were making a stop at McDonald’s for an ice cream cone. Fast forward nearly 3 decades of ice cream memories and it’s still just as satisfying as it was when I was a kid. Desserts have been a favorite at McDonald’s for almost 60 years. Last summer alone, McDonald’s customers enjoyed 68 million vanilla soft serve cones across the country.

The fast food chain is stepping up their dessert game with new Premium Desserts. Nearly 90% of the 14,000 locations are independently owned and operated and many of which have already upgraded their menus to include new offerings and easy order kiosks. Last week Anthony and Cindy Lopez, owners of 11 (and counting) locations, invited me into their Country Walk location to check out the new desserts. As a sucker for sweets, I just couldn’t turn it down.

Here’s what’s being added to the menu this summer:

Turtle Brownie Sundae: spoonfuls of rich chocolate chip brownie bites and swirls of creamy soft serve with layers of hot caramel and hot fudge topped with salted pecans and whipped topping

Strawberry Shortcake Sundae: pieces of moist white cake covered in creamy soft serve with a sweet strawberry topping and flurry whipped topping

Both desserts were delightfully delicious and I could definitely see myself ordering them again. As a major chocolate lover, I would have to say I’m leaning slightly more toward the Turtle Brownie Sundae - but wouldn’t stop anyone from bringing me a Strawberry Shortcake Sundae. Owner Anthony Lopez described them as “flavorful, creative feel-good desserts,” and I would have to agree. It’s nice to see a fast food chain that continues to evolve when it comes to what customers are craving and wanting to see next. Fun fact: McDonald’s worked with 18 suppliers to get the taste of the vanilla soft serve just right. That’s dedication!

Make sure to stop by your local McDonald’s to check these treats out for yourself!
