Finding MiMo: Exploring the dining and cocktails of the Biscayne Corridor

Miami has seen the birth of many vibrant neighborhoods in the past few years. Even during COVID, many diners wanted to get takeout or stay locally which added to and increased neighborhood loyalty of the restaurant “down the street”.

Located along the heart of Biscayne Boulevard, Miami’s “Upper Eastside” is best known for its Miami-Modern (MiMo) architecture style. The area is home to striking mid-century hotels and commercial buildings characterized by kitschy and often extravagant design. The 27-block district between 50th and 77th Street has been revived in the past 20 years or so; forgotten architectural gems are being restored to their former glory forging a new identity for the neighborhood as MiMo Biscayne Boulevard Historic District. Here, independently-owned home décor shops and clothing boutiques adorn the sidewalks, along with a wealth of world-class dining destinations housed inside retro-style structures drawing in visitors and locals alike.

In an effort to spotlight some of MiMo’s neighborhood gems, the teams behind Phuc Yea, Café Kush, Blvd Bae’s, Vagabond Motel, La Placita and The New Yorker Hotel have joined forces to present Finding MiMo – a monthlong unique cocktail-centric neighborhood effort created by Miami’s leading chefs, bartenders s and hospitality mavens to encourage the exploration of Miami’s Upper Eastside.

Beginning on Wednesday, May 5, 2021, and continuing through the entire month of May, guests visiting any of the participating restaurants can say the catchphrase: “Where’s Dory” to their server and receive one (1) complimentary cocktail.

To up the ante, guests are encouraged take an Instagram post with the hashtag #findingmimo and tag all six participating restaurants – in doing so, participating guests will be entered into a weekly drawing to win $120 in MiMo Dining Dollars ($20 to use at each location).

“Our goal for Finding MiMo is to activate the 33137 and 33138 zip codes. We designed this campaign for our community first and foremost – we want our guests to journey out into the culinary landscape we’ve carved out here and get acquainted with it”, says Ani Meinhold, co-owner at Phuc Yea. “There’s serious culinary talent in MiMo and we’re so excited to showcase it through this unique collaboration.”
