National Rum Day was Friday, August 16 and Miami was one of the best places in the U.S.A. to celebrate this National holiday. This week’s MIAbites Weekly Nibble was all about Rum Day celebrations! While you may have missed the “official” celebrations, rest assured that RUM is still flowing at all of the below mentioned watering holes.
Whether you prefer to celebrate with a mojito or daiquiri on Calle Ocho, a Piña colada at the beach, a Hemingway Papa Doble or a dark ‘n’ stormy at your favorite watering hole, or if you have a favorite type (white, dark, spiced, or aged) or brand (Bacardi, Havana Club, Ron Zacapa, etc.), we hope you’ll consider celebrating properly at the following South Florida celebrations:
The Confidante- National Rum Day Fest
On Friday, August 16th, local and global brands and rum experts and enthusiasts will take over the poolside garden at The Confidante Miami Beach for the third annual National Rum Day Fest. Festivities kick off at 5:00 p.m. for VIP guests and 6:00 p.m. for general admission.
Participating rums include: Ron Zacapa, Bacardi, Diplomatico, Santa Theresa, Havana Club, La Hechicera, Malibu and more will celebrate their favorite spirit category, RUM! Tickets for Miami Beach’s premier rum festival include complimentary tastings and a night filled with live music, cigar rolling, fun & games and rum! Esotico Miami ( NEW!! )
Opening just in time for Rum Day, the new tropically chic, modern tiki restaurant and bar offers a spectacular cocktail menu featuring approximately 230 rums. Guests can enjoy fun tiki style cocktails ranging from the Nu Mai Tai (made with Bacardi Carta Negra Rum, Yellow Snake Rum, Trois Rivieres Ambre Rum, orange liqueur, passion fruit and a very secret ingredient for a compelling twist), Club Bali (a homage to tiki with Cachaça Yaguara and Banks 5 Island Rum), Kama’iana (served in a young coconut with Diplomatico Planas Rum, Trois Rivieres Rum, tropical fruits, and secret flavors) and the Missionary’s Downfall (Bacardi Carta Blanca Rum, Alamea Peach Brandy, Re’al Blue Agave Nectar, fresh pineapple, and a hint of mint). Red Bar
Red Bar in Brickell will be celebrating National Rum Day with $10 rum cocktails all night long on Friday, August 16th. Red Bar will also be launching their Painkiller Tropical Bar window, which is a tiki style walk-up window to enjoy tropical cocktails in their outdoor space.
The Wharf
The Wharf will host their second annual “Rum Around the Clock” Festival on August 16 beginning at 5 p.m. The time that guests order their drinks is the price they will pay, which sounds like a great deal to us! In addition, the Wharf will offer over 150+ types of rum (with 50 of them being on special). This event will also feature a mixology competition, Calypso band, Polynesian fire performances, rum-inspired gourmet food, and more! The Commodore
The Commodore, located at the Ritz-Carlton Coconut Grove, will offer half off Ralph’s Choice with Santa Teresa Añejo, lime, pineapple shrub and espelette syrup; el Presidente with Don Q Rum, Orange Curaçao, dry vermouth and grenadine; Spicy Pineapple Mojito; and certain rum flights from 5:00-11:00 p.m.
Sweet Caroline
Sweet Caroline will be celebrating National Rum Day all weekend long with $13 premium rum cocktails starting and Friday, August 16th and continuing through Sunday, August 18th.
Beaker & Gray
Wynwood’s favorite watering hole, Beaker & Gray, is the area’s go-to spot for creatively crafted cocktails on National Rum Day or any day. Serving a fun lineup of libations, rum lovers can head to the bar for innovative concoctions created by Bar Director Ben Potts. For the “holiday,” Beaker & Gray has partnered with Papa’s Pilar and Miami Rum Club to create signature one-day-only cocktails.
RWSB
Rum Day at RWSB in the W Hotel South Beach means starting the evening with a flight of stellar selections. The dinnertime lineup includes half ounce pours of Star Rum, Zaya 12-year and Zacapa 23-year for only $20 from 6:30PM-midnight.
