La Dolce Vita at Made in Italy Gourmet
Let’s start this article by just putting everything out on the table, okay? I was raised by an Italian mother and have spent every summer of my life in Italy.
I teach Italian. I eat pasta probably about four times a week. I dream about quitting my job and moving to Italy to sip on wine and stroll through Italian piazze hand in hand with my lover while eating gelato. Ok, now I'm just getting carried away, but you get the point. I’m pretty much obsessed with all things Italian.
Stepping into Made in Italy Gourmet was the first time that I felt that I was back in Italy without having to endure the grueling 9 hour flight and lousy airplane food. The cavernous warehouse in Wynwood is the ultimate destination for Italian food lovers. The 3,500 square foot space manages to feel cozy with faux olive trees and dedicated areas for a wine bar (which doubles as a breakfast/espresso bar in the morning hours), a market selling authentic Italian delicacies and wine, a culinary educational center, a wine tasting area with a massive 40 ft. wood table and Murano glass chandeliers sparkling above, and a fast-casual restaurant with cured meats and cheese, sandwiches, salads, and handmade pasta.
Owner/partner Pietro Morelli says “We wanted to create a trademark gastronomic experience that aligns with the way we were raised to appreciate food and wine in Italy, a place where the Italian community can feel at home and newcomers can get a taste of Italy from the finest products not found in any other store.”
Since its opening, Made in Italy Gourmet has pressed full steam ahead with complimentary wine and food tastings and plans to offer year-round food and wine courses, demonstrations, and lectures from renowned chefs.
For someone like me who has had an ongoing love affair with all things Italian for quite some time, Made in Italy Gourmet makes it very easy to fall in love over and over again. Make sure to LIKE their Facebook page to keep up to date with all their culinary events, new menu items, contests, and daily happenings.
