Right On Target Cooking Classes at The Wynwood Yard

The Wynwood Yard is one of our favorite concepts in Miami. There’s always a cool calendar of activities to fit all ages and occasions. Recently The Wynwood Yard partnered with the local chapter of non-profit, Wellness in the Schools, to host a series of twelve hands-on Right On Target® Cooking Classes at The Yard.

Partially funded by Target and in partnership with the local chapter of non-profit Wellness in the Schools, the new cooking class series focuses on healthy, wholesome meals anyone can make at home, no matter their cooking level. They'll be held twice per month for a total of 12 sessions led by some of Miami's favorite chefs like Matthew Sherman of jugofresh, Pamela Wasabi of Pamela Wasabi cookies and Nicole Votano, culinary director of CHARCOAL, among others.

Each class begins at 6pm and lasts for about two hours. All of the fresh ingredients are provided and guests even get to take home their own copy of the delicious recipes. During the class guests are put into groups of four with their own kitchen setup complete with all of the tools and appliances needed to create the meal. It’s perfect to do with a group of friends or a great way to meet new friends.

MIAbites was in attendance at the first Right On Target Cooking Class taught by Giorgio Rapicavoli of  Glass & Vine and Eating House. The menu included: strawberry gazpacho with crisp cucumber and basil, Mexican-inspired blistered corn with crema, cotija cheese and cilantro, short rib 'vaca frita' with sour onions and garlic, and for dessert caramelized bananas topped with coconut ice cream, cashews and lime.

The menu was fun and easy to make with steps simple enough to follow, that even those who don’t know their way around the kitchen could handle and enjoy. As your assigned group works together to prepare the meal, the guest chef walks around the room and helps everyone get their dishes to be just right. Once you’re done cooking you get to enjoy the meal with your friends — or new friends!

The Wynwood Yard is big on the charity component when it comes to these cooking classes as 4 of the 30 tickets per class will be given to deserving people of the community including local non-profit organizations and neighborhood service providers such as teachers, police and fire rescue professionals, as well as proceeds from the classes benefiting Wellness in the Schools' nutrition and fitness programming for children.

The next class will take place on February 14th with Chef Julie Frans from della test kitchen preparing a Valentine’s Day inspired menu featuring:

  • Salad of arugula, shaved fennel, strawberries, avocado, Marcona almonds, basil honey vinaigrette
  • Za'atar crusted salmon +Israeli couscous with figs, walnuts, and pomegranate + roasted asparagus (vegan alternative option available upon request. Specify in notes.)
  • Flourless chocolate cake with red wine poached cherries, vanilla bean cream, shot of espresso

For the special Valentine's Day date night edition, a few optional aphrodisiacs will be available for pre-purchase and to savor during the class, including oysters, artichokes, wine, and cocktails. Each extra special add on can be purchased through Eventbrite when buying your class ticket.
