On the 19th anniversary of September 11th, 2001, Food Rescue US-Miami and MIAbites will join Chef José Andrés World Central Kitchen and 911Day.org to provide 911 meals to local Miami hospital workers, first responders, and police and firefighters.

We all remember where we were when the terrorist attacks occurred on September 11th, 2001. It is hard to believe that it was 19 years ago. Many of us were children or had young children. We replayed the horror of the World Trade Towers falling over and over again. Stunned, shocked, and helpless is how we all felt.

National nonprofit, 911Day.org has led the movement to turn a day of tragedy into a day of doing good and in 2009 was instrumental in President Obama signing into law making September 11th a National Day of Service and Remembrance. 9/11 is now the largest day of service in the US.

The 911 National Day of Service and Remembrance honors the victims, heroes and first responders that perished or are still suffering from the terrorist attacks of that day by encouraging community service. While we were helpless on that day, we are not helpless today and can give back to our local first responders in thanks.

MIAbites and Food Rescue US Miami will provide 911 meals from local chef-owned restaurants to our frontline hospital workers, and police and fire departments to say thank you and to honor those lost on 9/11.

About Food Rescue US

Food Rescue US, a national nonprofit organization, is a leader in reducing both hunger and food waste in America by connecting the vast amount of healthy, fresh surplus food with the critical hunger demand. Through the use of its proprietary app, Food Rescue US provides the platform for volunteer food rescuers to directly transfer excess food from hotels, restaurants, markets and events to local social service agencies that feed the food insecure. MIAbites launched the Miami location in 2018 and has recovered over 600,000 lbs of food including over 40,000 lbs from this year’s Super Bowl LIV. During COVID, Food Rescue US Miami has been funding local restaurant meal distributions to furloughed, laid off, unemployed and those in need.
