Italian "Sunday Gravy" at Jack’s Miami for $25-

Jack's Miami Italian Sunday Gravy

I admit it.  I am not Italian, but growing up in the Bronx I have fond memories of visits to Arthur Avenue for fresh pasta, mozzarella, sausages, meatballs and crusty loaves of bread or for that special Sunday red sauce dinner at Dominick's.

So imagine the smile on my face when I discovered "Sunday Gravy" at Jack’s Miami on the border of Edgewater and Wynwood.   In a converted bungalow on NE 2nd Ave, Jack’s offers a welcoming family-friendly ambiance, with chalkboard specials, a cozy bar, indoor and outdoor seating and black and white photos of many “Jacks” from Jack Nicholson to Jack Klugman.

Jack's Miami Rigatoni with Meatballs, sausages and short rib

A virtual step into “The Sopranos” set includes a Sunday prix fixe dinner from 4-8 pm for $25 that includes a fresh green salad, garlic bread and a steaming bowl of fresh rigatoni, Nonna’s meatballs, sausage, and short ribs in a thick rich red tomato sauce ( and lovingly called Sunday gravy ) and topped with a dollop of creamy ricotta and fresh basil. PLUS a glass of wine, and dessert of a chocolate chip cannoli and you have a complete meal that is satisfying and quite the bargain.

jacks Miami Pasta Chicken

The rest of Jack’s menu features traditional Italian classics like Eggplant Rollatini, Sausage & Peppers, a selection of eight pastas available in single or double size portions including Spaghetti and Nonna’s Meatballs, Linguini in either red or white clam sauce and Penne a la Vodka.   Main dishes include Chicken Milanese, Chicken Parm and Jack’s Home-made meatloaf.

Jacks Miami Chalkboard Specials

The chalkboard side wall lists daily specials including on the week we were there; Monday- Baked Ziti, and Wednesday- Lasagna.

Chef JP and Alan Roth at Jacks Miami

Cooking up these authentic menu items is Chef John Parlavechio, aka Chef JP, who grew up in the restaurant business and worked in many New York & New Jersey restaurants as a young man. JP opened Zio Luigi's on Washington Ave in South Beach back in the early 90's and has been the private Chef for Mickey Rourke and other top celebrities before returning to Miami to join friend and partner Alan Roth to open Jack's Miami.

It is hard to keep a food secret in Miami, and just in the past week, Instagram has been filled with delicious pictures from Jack’s Miami from a number of our fellow bloggers and foodie fans including Lee Brian Schrager of SOBEWFF.

So let the secret out. Jack’s Miami. Sundays. $25.

Or any day for that matter.
