Macchialina Wine Collective: Curated by Somm Jacqueline Pirolo
Macchialina has always been my favorite spot for authentic Italian food. The brick walled taverna feels cozy, the staff always welcoming and if you choose to dine outside in their garden on a lovely Miami Beach night out, it is both relaxing and delicious.
Not to mention how much I like and respect James Beard nominated Chef Michael Pirolo and his Managing Partner and sister Jacqueline, the Wine and Beverage director.
On a sunny Saturday, we were invited to visit with Jackie and her knowledgeable wine staff for a tasting of some of the wines offered this month in the Macchialina Wine Club.
Named one of Wine Spectator’s “9 Small but Mighty Wine Lists” and “Best Contemporary Wine Menu” by Gambero Rosso in December 2021, Jacqueline’s impressive selection of wines are sourced exclusively from estate-grown grapes and boutique growers – many quite rare and hard to find in the States. Jacqueline and her team of seasoned wine savants also manage the “front of the house” Macch Wine Shop. Here, guests can stop by before or after their meal to stock up on extremely hard-to-find bottles for around 50% off the list price.
And now you can enjoy those same specially curated wines without leaving your home( $15 delivery or free pickup) by joining the Macchialina Wine Collective.
Members of the Macchialina Wine Collective can expect a themed selection of wines from boutique growers, hand-selected by Jacqueline and her team. Options in a subscription to include two, four or six bottles each month. Apart from these exceptional wines – oftentimes made from overlooked grapes grown in underappreciated regions – each bottle contains a unique QR code providing a brief description of the monthly theme and tasting notes. Past themes have highlighted rare varietals, regions and seasons and some themes have been loose, this month’s theme was highlighting “Women In Wine”. Boxes also include an artisanal treat from Chef Michael Pirolo – usually something jarred and/or preserved such as eggplant caponata or blueberry mostarda.
This is the only wine club where attention is paid to not just to boutique vineyards but also to understanding the importance of food pairings from a top chef. And lucky for us, we were treated to a delicious charcuterie plate to pair perfectly with the variety of sparkling, white and reds.
In addition, Macchialina Wine Collective members receive first dibs on limited-run dishes at the restaurant along with priority access to Macchialina’s special events, like Sunday Red Sauce and Chicken Parm night.
The Macchialina Wine Collective subscription options include:
2 bottles a month- $59
4 bottles- $109
6 bottles-$159
Wines are available the 3rd Monday or Tuesday of every month and you can cancel or pause your subscription at any time. Delivery is $15, or free for pickup.
And if you join by March 31st you will receive 20% off your first month ( Use Code MACCHMUST20)
