Saturday Sweets: Cream Parlor in MiMo
It is still National Ice Cream Month for another week, so time to indulge and give in to your cravings at Cream Parlor. The MiMo community has been up-and-coming over the last few years bringing us the spots like Cake Thai, Pinch Kitchen, Blue Collar and the Vagabond Motel ( and soon to open Gregory’s Diner!) - but as I’ve preached every Saturday there’s always room for dessert to be mixed in. Johnny and Ainsley Tsokos have made our sweet dreams in MiMo come true with their happy little shop - Cream Parlor.
One step into Cream Parlor and you feel an instant sense of comfort and home. The entire place is decorated in childhood knick knacks, grandma’s china, and even a writing desk from Johnny’s school days. Johnny and Ainsley knew for over a decade that they wanted a place of their own after working in a restaurant owned by Johnny’s family for years. Ainsley was out for a run one day when she stumbled upon the vacant space. She was there at just the right time to get a tour of the space and instantly fell in love once she saw the back patio. She ran home and drew everything out. It came to her immediately - the name, menu, layout. It was their dream come true. It’s an extension of their home that we’re all welcome to visit.
Cream serves an extensive menu of sandwiches and savory dishes and while they are all wonderful - that’s not why you’re reading Saturday Sweets. Cream’s dessert menu is as fun and crazy as you want to make it! In fact, there isn’t even a dessert menu! The first visit can be somewhat intimidating but the team at Cream wants you to take your time and explore your options. They’ve got a few hits - Unicorn Poop Cakepops, Purple Rain ice cream, and the Pixie Shake that keep people coming back but the sky's the limit.
A beginners guide would look something like this:
Pick a base - cup, cone (there’s a few types), brownie, cookie, shake, coffee
Pick an ice cream (or 3) - the flavors rotate and they are all amazing
Cover in toppings - cereal, Whoppers (my favorite), cookies, candy, sprinkles, sauces, marshmallows, butterflies. Really the list could go on forever!
Devour before it melts!
Make sure you come hungry because the desserts easily hit larger than life status. Of course, no one will judge you if you come in an order just a plain ice cream cone or even one of their lavender chai tea lattes. I dare you to follow their drool worthy Instagram for a week without making your way there. Cream Parlor is the perfect place to take the kids, or to pretend you’re a kid yourself.
