Blue Collar, A MiMo Destination Offering Elevated Homestyle Cooking
Not all restaurants manage to maintain their mojo when they outgrow their original location but Blue Collar, which moved last spring from its tiny nook across the street to 6789 Biscayne Boulevard (formerly the home of BALANS and La Placita restaurants), hasn’t skipped a beat. Chef/restaurateur Danny Serfer’s new corner spot is spacious, comfortable and inviting with a vibe that is in sync with the elevated homestyle comfort-food he serves.
On this visit we went for brunch and were immediately impressed by the extensive menu and great drinks list.
The cheeseburger was delicious, made of prime NY strip and brisket. It was juicy, nicely seasoned and topped with melty sharp cheese and served on a toasted Portuguese muffin. The fries that accompanied the burger were a thing of beauty!
The Veggie Scramble, a savory medley of garden-fresh asparagus, broccoli, mushrooms and provolone cheese, topped with a generous spoonful of zesty San Marzano tomato sauce was satisfying and packed with fresh flavors.
The Brisket Benedict was another winner; poached eggs perched on generous slices of tender-cooked brisket served with a crispy potato latke on a split Portuguese muffin- all enrobed in a rich, roasted garlic aioli. Chef Danny is well known for his brisket and sells out every Passover for his take home Pesach meal!
The Burrito filled with scrambled eggs, pickled peppers, bacon, sausage and American cheese was brunch comfort-food at its best.
Blue Collar also offers an ever changing array of specials such as soul-satisfying Goat Curry, Baby Back Ribs, Pasta with “Big Ragout” and must try sides. The Veggie Board is another original Blue Collar signature and loyal fans will not be disappointed.
The pan roasted mushrooms and sautéed kale were both DELISH!
The portions at Blue Collar are quite generous and every dish showcases Chef Danny’s flair for adding his own special interpretation to homestyle cooking.
Despite our best intentions, we had no room left for dessert but we will make sure we leave room for some next time!
If you’re looking for a great spot that feels like a hug, this place is a must. Whether you’re a regular or a first-timer, you’ll leave with a full stomach and a happy heart. Just be sure to come hungry!
