UPDATE: Yesterday, in Singapore, the restaurant community and food lovers world wide tuned in for the Worlds 50 Best Restaurant announcement, and Chef Mauro Colagreco and Mirazur in the small French town of Menton was awarded the #1 spot. Chef Mauro opened his first US restaurant, Flories at the Four Seasons Palm Beach just this March, and here is our MIAbites review from our visit for brunch. Worth the trip.

Shop Local at Urban Oasis Projects Farmers Markets

Celebrate local farmers and shop farmers markets for fresh fruit and produce in South Florida!. On a recent Saturday, the fresh fruit and vegetable enthusiast that I am, ventured down to the Southwest Farmers Market at Tropical Park (open year-round, Saturdays from 9 am - 3 pm) to experience what they had to offer.  

The Urban Oasis Project local produce farm stand was the main draw for me but there were other vendors to see as well.

La Placita: Puerto Rican food and Dominoes with Chef Jose Mendin

It was Tuesday, and La Placita in MiMo was hosting their Domino Tournament, a weekly event that is held in the outdoor patio seating area from 7 -10 pm. Chef/Owner of Pubbelly and La Placita, Jose Mendin, was there to defend his title, but so were a dozen or more fellow food industry professionals along with some regular passionate players, so the event took on a competitive, yet very festive turn.
